Tom R. Chambers' "Digital Suprematism - Geometric Abstraction" project presentation for the Art Lab series (June 5, 2023) based in the Dean Clough complex in Halifax, Calderdale, West Yorkshire, England.
Art Lab is a peer group for artists and art practitioners to discuss their work, concurrent ideas and critical thinking. Art Lab’s event practice randomly pairs two artists together to explore commonalities and collaborative methods.
Dean Clough is a group of large factory buildings built in the 1840s–60s for Crossley's Carpets, becoming one of the world's largest carpet factories. The converted mills now house about 150 large and small businesses and arts venues including Crossley Gallery and several other art galleries and the Viaduct Theatre, home base for the Northern Broadsides theatre company.

BLACK SQUARE DISPLACEMENT - Utilization of Kazimir Malevich's Artworks, 1900-1914. Kazimir Malevich's "Black Square" is utilized as a transformational zone to displace his artworks, 1900-1914. These artworks were created prior to his Suprematism and "Black Square". Malevich might approve of this treatment since he became bored with most, if not all, art movements and their creations. More than likely, he looked back on his early artworks ... including his Cubist experimentations ... in the same manner, and probably wondered why he had not reached the Suprematist state sooner. The Pixel as Suprematist/Minimalist Art

During the early-mid 2000s, Chambers began to look at the pixel within the context of Suprematist / Minimalist art. He equated the pixel with the works of non-objective artists like Vasily Kandinsky , Barnett Newman , Mark Rothko , Ad Reinhardt , Kazimir Malevich , Piet Mondrian and others. They generated works to establish an abstract visual language of the sublime, pure color, geometric form, deep contemplation and metaphysical pursuit of the truth. http://tomrchambers.com/pixel_sup_min_art.html The pixels or "Pixelscapes" - as he calls them - conform with many of these non-objective artists' works. They are a revelation for him when compared to these non-objective works generated many years before the pixel and Digital Revolution.
